Speculum Mortis is a horror-styled point-and-click adventure. Gameplay consists of wandering around a Victorian age residence which was abandoned years ago, or so it seems at first glance.

Left click to examine objects or your surroundings, and right click to interact.

Trilby references! Lots of them.

Not a bad game, the auto-scrolling and auto-skipping of the text could be less annoying, though.

I absolutely cannot stand the control scheme. I hate the right click and I hate having to pull up the menu and then click the back button to move out of rooms.. yeah wait, I hate having to RIGHT click the back button. Infuriating.

RIGHT-clicking a back button? O_O That's one of the more confusingly bad interface designs I've heard of so far! It looked really promising, but after hearing this... I'm getting my doubts.

They also seem to have the general intuitive part completely switched (normally, it's right-clicking to examine and left-clicking to interact, and is so for a reason).

Dunno about this... Is it worth playing, even with such major flaws?

Yeah, the control takes a while to get used to. I finished the game yesterday and I quite enjoyed it. The thing that really bugs me the most is the way they handle the pacing of the game. You can take a bunch of stuff, but the game won't let you take them unless you're at a certain point in the game. Also, you can't just take 'em either... you have to left click them AND right click them. And here's the killer for me, the game also won't let you enter certain areas of the mansion until much later. The game doesn't even tell you why you can't. At one point you can access the rooms, then later, you suddenly can! Argh... so random!

The atmosphere is really excellent though. And I dig the pixel art.
