Joe Gunn is a superb new original C64 platformer by Georg Rottensteiner. It sorta plays like a cross between Dizzy and Rick Dangerous; though I'm sure there's a better comparison out there than that. LaMulana wouldn't be a million miles off.

The game has you skillfully avoiding enemies and solving item based puzzles. It's really rather simple, but I'm enjoying it quite a lot. Probably because I've got a soft spot for Commodore 64 games.

The controls are a little awkward at first, so here's a quick run down:
Left/Right: Walk Left or Right
Up/Down: Climb up and down ladders
Fire + Down: Examine
Fire + Up: Use an Item
Fire + Left or Right: Jump

Some advice to get started: Climb down the ladder and press Fire + Down to examine the skeleton - then press Fire + Right to jump the spikes. Walk over to the entrance and press Fire + Up to use the Scarab and open the door.

Unless you're lucky enough to have some way to transfer this onto a C64 disk, you'll need a C64 emulator to run it. I highly recommend WinVice.

Name: Joe Gunn
Developer: Endurion (Georg Rottensteiner)
Category: Platform Adventure
Type: Freeware, C64
Size: A minuscule 22kb

Great stuff. Transferred it over to my good ol' C64c and am loving every minute :)

Looking forward to seeing a walkthrough though. It's a bit on the tricky side!

It's really great, isn't it? I think I'm going to hook up my old C64 too and get it working on it - I've got a MCC64 cartridge so I think I should be able to do it easily enough :)

@ echo - yep, that's exactly what I did...

I tried recording a video of it running on my C64 - unfortunately it didn't come out very well... :(

Here it is anyway!

I'm quite stuck at this. I finished the seals thing, got the feather of Horus, the hammer, 5 golden masks and the book of life, and the one of death. I'm stuck at the part where you get the book of life, though. There's a door there, which seems to be the only way out of that pit, but it's closed. The only other way out, is the same way as how I got in there: through a hole in the ground (ceiling now, that place with the two snakes, three switches and the skeleton). Anybody knows how I can get out of there?

HURRAY! I went through each room down there for the gazillionth time, examining every single tile, walking over everything, to make sure I didn't miss anything. I'm now out of there =D

Examine everything in the room with the book of living for a short exit.

WOO! Finished it! That antechamber is at least as vile as the chamber with the book of life, but got through it all =D
